Still Borked! — Needs to fix “hidden” window at startup, and allow size changes
Updating my review (see below).
It’s funny, I tried using this app again to see if the usability issues had been fixed. They’re not. Developer needs to be called out for public shaming. Advanced Mac user since forever, and I have *no* idea how to get this app to display/hide/alt-tab toggle properly and consistently. Figured I’d write up a review to let other people know, and realized I’d already written a review. So I’m adding to it.
I can understand an app might have bugs during various stages of development, however, these bugs should be fixed. At this point, I can only assume this “bug” is intentional, and the developer doesn’t know his app window from a hole in the ground. This app is not following Apple usability standards and it’s failure to do so within a reasonable time should be enough to warrant being pulled from the Appstore.
In addition to the visibility/usability issues detailed in my first write up (below), I’ll add now that the quality of the radar displayed at the local level is rubbish. I feel like I’m playing Pong on a black and white TV with this kind of resolution.
Forget it, I’m just going to look out the window to see if it’s raining, because I know how to USE A WINDOW and the devloper obviously does not.
DO NOT purchase from Voros Innovation. I certainly won’t, ever again.
My previous review (still applicable):
This app has an issue were it sometimes can be “hidden” at launch. Clicking on the icon in the menu bar will make it appear. There is a preference setting to turn on/off “Auto-hide radar/weather window when in background” and when this is checked OFF, the app is hidden at launch. When this is checked ON, the app window appears at launch as it should, but then it hides when switching apps. Frankly, this is a matter of mac-usability standards, and this app is not following protocol. It should appear at application launch as any app should. The option to auto-hide in background should be set to off as default. The app should stay visible when application switching just like any other app. It’s ok to give an option to hide, but let that be an option and not the default choice. The issue with the window hidden at launch needs to be fixed regardless. Frankly, I’m surprised it passed entry into the Mac AppStore due to the unconventional usability issue.
Additonal usability issue is there is no ability to resize the window. There are two options: the default size or full screen. But nothing larger or smaller than the default. Should be able to grab the bottom right corner of the window and resize, as with most apps.
I’d also like the ability to just see either the local radar window or the national. I’m not interested in the forecast information, and usually only want to see local radar, so there is a bunch of stuff taking up unnecessary space on my screen. But the only way to view the local radar large enough is with the full screen mode and the other data is always there.
Otherwise, the app seems to perform well, and shows good current radar data.
I tried this because I didn’t want to pay the $29.99 for a competing app (which I have had good experience with on my iPhone/iPad) but I’m thinking that should have been my first choice.
