Radar Live Pro - doppler radar App Reviews

71 Customer Reviews:

Why this app cost money is beyond me. I have a 27 inch monitor and you would think I could leverage this technology. This app is blurry and very unclear, looks like it was created in the 80’s. This app is a total joke, just go to any other weather site on the internet and save some money.

Best Weather Radar I Found for a Mac.

It seems to work well and has the current and future information I wanted.

Fun, Accurate and very Useful

Opens rapidly with one click to current conditions. Easy to check locations of family and friends.

I use this app on a Retina iMac and have found to to be very unstable. It will shut down about 50% of the time on start up. It reopens without a problem, but you really shouldn’t have to put up with that. When it works, the app is fine, but very limited in scope. Also,I have noticed that the two windows show different time cycles. One of the windows can be as much at 30 minutes behind which is not good when you are tracking severe weather coming at you. I don’t think I would spend the money again. Would much preferr to have the Radar Plus app that is on my phone.

poor resolution

Extremely disappointed with the graphic resolution. Fee apps on my phone are far superior

rsmcnair · 10 years ago

Easy to use and gives me all the information I need. Someone on here left a review that there is no full screen mode, well there is and its the one I use, its one of the window style options.

Just ok, not worth $8.99

Could be much better for $9. Grainy details on radar, would not buy again.

This app is junk. It looks good at a statewide level, but if you try to go to a city level the pixels are so big and blurred that they are useless. Yes it is nice to know how the whole state looks, but I want to know when the rain is going to hit my neighborhood. This app does NOT do that. If you want a any sort of detail/resolution beyond an entire state map, do not buy this. How is everyone rating this so highly? I can get better weather by bookmarking my local news station’s website for FREE. The WeatherBug app on my iphone is perfect…but it is not available for my Macbook, so I bought this app. Highly disappointed. Weatherbug, please release your app for Mac.

Stopping Credit Card Payment. You can have it back “slightly used”.

It’s OK but not great, especially the type ( non-scale) and graphic quality suffer. The maps are NOT high definition and that makes you wonder why didn’t that happen-Macs retina display and all that. You can access easily the app (good) and the windows are large but I’d like to drag the maps and scale to make local radar prevalent. It would be nice to add your address for fine point monitoring too. The quality is low on graphics and the tiny, non-scalable type makes reading a chore. For the money it’s kind of a let down.

If you are wanting a acurate and up-to-date app, DO NOT get this one! The updates on the radar run over 30 minutes late. The storm would have already hit you by the time this app shows it. Also, the actual radar is terrible. Not detailed at all. I wish there was a way that I could get my wasted money back. Do NOT get this junk. I lost my $9, don’t waste yours.

Same icon as NOAA Hi-Def Radar Pro for iOS, but a totally different and inferior app…I should of taken more notice of who was selling this app. Can I get a refund? Minimal information is displayed/available on the radar and weather forecast. The radar doesn’t provide alerts, watch/warning boxes, lightening strikes, storm direction, etc…it’s VERY basic at best. Also the ability to change the sizes of the local radar map vs the national map would of been a huge plus. Forecast information is nothing but a banner at the top with a graphic and short narrative of the general outlook for a week’s worth of weather for my location.

Fux the app

The program starts up without screen showing. Also disappears when tabbing between windows. Not woth what I paid for it.

James Cochran · 10 years ago

I paid 8.00 for an app that gets it’s data from weather underground, which is a way better site and costs only 5.00 a year to join and open a web page. If I needed an app to open a webpage for me, I should have just bought a scooby doo tablet and not known a thing about using a Mac Book Pro. Total waste of money.

Sandanista Pete · 10 years ago

Bought this thinking it would be as good as the NOAA apps on iOS. I am sorely disappointed. Cannot resize the window, cannot turn off the weather report to increase the radar size. When at the level of a city the pixels are so large there is no definition at all. Don’t waste your money on this app. Even if it weas free it wouldn’t be worth the download time. As others have said, I wish I had read all of the reviews before purchasing.

Updating my review (see below). It’s funny, I tried using this app again to see if the usability issues had been fixed. They’re not. Developer needs to be called out for public shaming. Advanced Mac user since forever, and I have *no* idea how to get this app to display/hide/alt-tab toggle properly and consistently. Figured I’d write up a review to let other people know, and realized I’d already written a review. So I’m adding to it. I can understand an app might have bugs during various stages of development, however, these bugs should be fixed. At this point, I can only assume this “bug” is intentional, and the developer doesn’t know his app window from a hole in the ground. This app is not following Apple usability standards and it’s failure to do so within a reasonable time should be enough to warrant being pulled from the Appstore. In addition to the visibility/usability issues detailed in my first write up (below), I’ll add now that the quality of the radar displayed at the local level is rubbish. I feel like I’m playing Pong on a black and white TV with this kind of resolution. Forget it, I’m just going to look out the window to see if it’s raining, because I know how to USE A WINDOW and the devloper obviously does not. DO NOT purchase from Voros Innovation. I certainly won’t, ever again. My previous review (still applicable): This app has an issue were it sometimes can be “hidden” at launch. Clicking on the icon in the menu bar will make it appear. There is a preference setting to turn on/off “Auto-hide radar/weather window when in background” and when this is checked OFF, the app is hidden at launch. When this is checked ON, the app window appears at launch as it should, but then it hides when switching apps. Frankly, this is a matter of mac-usability standards, and this app is not following protocol. It should appear at application launch as any app should. The option to auto-hide in background should be set to off as default. The app should stay visible when application switching just like any other app. It’s ok to give an option to hide, but let that be an option and not the default choice. The issue with the window hidden at launch needs to be fixed regardless. Frankly, I’m surprised it passed entry into the Mac AppStore due to the unconventional usability issue. Additonal usability issue is there is no ability to resize the window. There are two options: the default size or full screen. But nothing larger or smaller than the default. Should be able to grab the bottom right corner of the window and resize, as with most apps. I’d also like the ability to just see either the local radar window or the national. I’m not interested in the forecast information, and usually only want to see local radar, so there is a bunch of stuff taking up unnecessary space on my screen. But the only way to view the local radar large enough is with the full screen mode and the other data is always there. Otherwise, the app seems to perform well, and shows good current radar data. I tried this because I didn’t want to pay the $29.99 for a competing app (which I have had good experience with on my iPhone/iPad) but I’m thinking that should have been my first choice.

This has been the best app ever. I just moved to Florida and I am not used to the weather here. This has been a god send. Works better then the NOAA Radio app that I got for the iPad. Thank you so much for this app. It has kept me sane and I am starting to love Florida.

rickyb39 · 10 years ago

The UI is not great, and you have to go to an settings menue to change options without seeing whats changing. I have an NOAA ipad app that’s much better and cheaper. For this price you’d be better off loading radar online. This is the first app I’ve bought that I’ve instantly felt ripped off after purchasing.

I enjoy the App, but I would like to be able to see the Drop Pins for all of my saved locations at one time when viewing the large map of the entire U.S.
